Crane Prairie is the big water on the Cascade Lakes Byway — about 4,940 acres with 24 miles of shoreline at 4,450 feet elevation. Famous for the "cranebows" — rainbow trout that regularly hit the 4-5 pound range with double-digit fish caught every year. The lake is shallow (15 ft average) and weedy, perfect for big trout to graze. Several Forest Service campgrounds on the shoreline.
